Weekend Influence: Lance Williams

Lance Williams - @lance.i - is a photographer based in Los Angeles who chooses to communicate his feelings and ideas visually. Having faced obstacles in his own life he began addressing his internal conflicts with his art. “For a long time I was afraid to make things that addressed my struggles with my state of being. Recently I gave my self license to engage with these ideas that addresses these struggles for what they are, but also leaves room for for something transformative.”

“ @itsmegangage    for ‘Surrender’ Cover shoot | I got my start with film photography back in high school as a sophomore. I was drawn to it immediately, but at the time it wasn’t a priority for me. It wasn’t until about 2012 when I started to dive back into photography with passion again. I was drawn to the emotions and moments I was able to capture with my subjects. Steadily, I’ve continued to push forward, honing my skills in a way that eventually turned a hobby into a career. Since high school I haven’t taken a single other course on using cameras in a school setting. If you’re passionate about creating something beautiful, you’ll find a way.” -Lance Williams

“Studio Session with    @moodkillerdotnet    | Two years ago when I first moved into my current home in LA, I set out to teach myself how to shoot studio portraits. A large part of my photo background was in concert photography, and I wanted to figure out a way to combine the vibrant colors with dynamic personalities I would see on stage into a studio setting. It’s been a humbling but rewarding process that has become the foundation of some of my favorite shots.”

“Studio Session with    @isylviasylvia    |    @isylviasylvia    is someone who’s friendship has pushed me forward in a creative and collaborative exchange. We’ve work on stills, video, and she even does my hair (🙏🏾). Every time I’ve been able to get behind the lens with her has been amazing. This was one of the last shots taken on a day where we explored around my neighborhood in Mid-City, taking photos and planning ahead for some future projects. We just recently finished a video project ft    @somewhereonmaps    coming soon!”
